  1. GAZILLIONAIRE  
  2. (an adventure/strategy game in outer space!)

  5. I.  INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:  
  6.  
  7. In order to install the executable game to Windows 3.1, 
  8. the SETUP ROUTINE requires three blank formatted
  9. 1.44 MB floppy disks.
  10.  
  11. 1)  You should see three disk files
  12. DISK1.ZIP, DISK2.ZIP and DISK3.ZIP
  13.  
  14. 2) Go to the directory on your hard drive where DISK1.ZIP is located.
  15.  
  16. Insert a blank 1.44 MB disk in drive A: 
  17. (assuming A: is your floppy disk drive)
  18. Type PKUNZIP DISK1.ZIP A:
  19. Once PKUNZIP has extracted all the files to your disk, 
  20. remove the disk from drive A:
  21.  
  22. Insert another blank 1.44 MB disk in drive A:
  23. Type PKUNZIP DISK2.ZIP A:
  24. Once PKUNZIP has extracted all the files to your disk, 
  25. remove the disk from drive A:
  26.  
  27. Insert another blank 1.44 MB disk in drive A:
  28. Type PKUNZIP DISK3.ZIP A:
  29. Once PKUNZIP has extracted all the files to your disk:, 
  30. remove the disk from drive A:

  32. 3)  You have now completed creating your Gazillionaire floppy 
  33. disk installation set.  Follow the instructions below to install 
  34. Gazillionaire onto any Windows 3.1 compatible computer.  
  35. NOTE:  You may now delete all the .ZIP files, 
  36. such as DISK1.ZIP, DISK2.ZIP, DISK3.ZIP.  This
  37.  will free up over 6 MB of hard disk space.
  38.  
  39. 4)  To install Gazillionaire from the FLOPPY DISKS 
  40. follow these instructions:
  41.  
  42. i)      Start Microsoft Windows
  43. ii)     Insert DISK # 1 in drive A:  (assuming A: is your floppy disk drive)
  44. iii)    From Program Manager, select FILE menu and choose RUN
  45. iv)    Type A:\SETUP
  46.  
  47. II.  RUNNING THE GAME:
  48.  
  49. The installation has been completed.  Now it is time to play the game.
  50.  
  51. i)    Go to the Gazillionaire program group.
  52. ii)   Double click on the icon labeled Gazillionaire.
  53. iii)  The game Gazillionaire should run.
  54.

  71. III.       PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:
  72.  
  73. a)  Microsoft Windows 3.1 or later.  3.5 HD disk drive.
  74. b)  A 386, 486 or Pentium-based DOS-compatible computer. 
  75. c)  VGA graphics, color monitor.
  76. d)  11 Megabytes of hard disk space.
  77. e)  4 Megabytes of RAM.
  78.  
  79. NOTE:  The graphics look best if you are running in 256 color mode.
  80. If you run the game and the planets do not look like real planets with 
  81. hundreds of colors, then you are probably running in 16 
  82. color mode.  You should use VGA, 640 by 480 graphics, 256 colors, 
  83. small fonts.  To change your system settings (Windows Setup), 
  84. contact your computer manufacture's technical support.  They 
  85. should help you install the necessary graphics drivers.
  86.  
  87. IV.      POSSIBLE ERRORS:
  88.  
  89. If you encounter an error not on this list, please let us know.
  90.  
  91. 1)  If you have any trouble with the display, text size or colors, try 
  92. switching Windows to VGA graphics.  Gazillionaire looks best if 
  93. you use VGA, 640 by 480 graphics, 256 colors (8 bpp), small font size.
  94.  
  95. 2)  All programs running under Microsoft Windows share resources, 
  96. and this tends to cause problems.  If you encounter any problems, 
  97. try closing down any power hungry applications like Photoshop or 
  98. MS Word.  They may be stealing resources from Gazillionaire.  
  99. If you are still having problems, try rebooting your computer 
  100. and running Gazillionaire without any other programs active at 
  101. the same time.
  102.  
  103. 3)  Gazillionaire uses a lot of memory, so if you are having memory 
  104. problems, you should go to the Windows Program Manager, double 
  105. click on the MAIN program group icon, double click on 
  106. CONTROL PANEL icon, double click on 386 ENHANCED icon, 
  107. select VIRTUAL MEMORY.  Check to see that your VIRTUAL 
  108. MEMORY is set to at least 6 megabytes.
  109.  
  110. 4) If you try installing Gazillionaire on your hard drive and get the 
  111. message Error - Could not copy file: VER.DL_, then just go to your 
  112. Windows directory and delete file VER.DL from the hard drive.  
  113. Try installing Gazillionaire again.  It should install without a problem, 
  114. and don't worry, Gazillionaire will install a copy of VER.DL and 
  115. VER.DLL on your hard drive.  This same rule applies any time you 
  116. get the message Error - Could not copy file: .  Just make sure not to 
  117. delete a newer version of the .DLL or .VBX files.
  118.  
  119. 5) Gazillionaire copies several .VBX files and .DLL files into your 
  120. Windows system directory.  If you already have these files installed, 
  121. the installation program will NOT overwrite them.  Other Windows 
  122. applications may also be using these same files.  If you have older 
  123. versions of these files already on your hard drive, the older versions 
  124. may not be compatible with the new versions.  This is a design problem 
  125. with Microsoft's component software system.  Microsoft has not yet 
  126. figured out how to solve this problem.  If you encounter this problem, 
  127. you need to delete the older .VBX and .DLL files yourself using the 
  128. FILE MANAGER.  Be sure to check the version number 
  129. before deleting any of the .VBX and .DLL files in your Windows System 
  130. directory and Windows directory.  NOTE:  We have included WPS.EXE 
  131. to help you check the version numbers.  Just go to FILE MANAGER, 
  132. select RUN, and type C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WPS.EXE.  
  133. WPS allows you to load in any file from any directory and 
  134. check its version number.
  135.  
  136. Once you have deleted any outdated files, try installing Gazillionaire 
  137. again. The Gazillionaire setup program will install all the .VBX and 
  138. .DLL files required to run the game.  Listed below are the .VBX 
  139. and .DLL files we use in connection with Gazillionaire.   All these files 
  140. are from either Microsoft Visual Basic version 3.0 or VideoSoft VSVBX 
  141. version 4.0.  If you have any questions regarding later versions, 
  142. please contact either Microsoft or VideoSoft.
